Exciting Son Of Getaway Skips Clear On Hurdle Debut
Talented bumper horse Carnfunnock (5g Getaway - Simply Erin, by Gamut) made an impressive start over hurdles at Ayr on Tuesday.
Stuart Crawford’s charge ran out a stylish winner of a bumper at the track last season, before finishing third in a Grade 2 contest at Leopardstown and made a winning return to action at Down Royal earlier this month.
Sent off a short-priced favourite for the two mile Novices’ Hurdle, the son of Getaway was ridden prominently by Daryl Jacob and needed little encouragement to assert at the second last. Jacob looked back to see his rivals under pressure on the run-in, as he skipped clear to win by six lengths.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “We like this horse a lot and his bumper form was excellent going into this race. We'll be looking at some quality races but we'll be taking our time with him.”
Bred by Edward McMahon, Carnfunnock is owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede.
