Exciting Treble For Getaway

Grange Stud sire Getaway celebrated an impressive treble on Wednesday, led by The Big Breakaway (4g Getaway - Princess Mairead, by Blueprint) extending his unbeaten record in the Novice Hurdle at Newbury.

Bought for €360,000 after winning his point-to-point impressively for Donnchadh Doyle, the William Mangan-bred chesnut went on to prove himself in a maiden hurdle last month, which he won by eight lengths. Carrying a penalty on Wednesday, he scored by seven lengths in comfortable fashion.

Colin Tizzard, who trains the winner for Eric Jones, Geoff Nicholas and John Romans, later commented, “The Big Breakaway is a gorgeous young horse. With two penalties, we'll have to step up to something hotter. We could take him to Cheltenham on January 25 to let him have a look at the course; he was bought to be a Cheltenham horse.”

An hour earlier in Pau, the David Cottin-trained Hanoi Hilton (3f Getaway - Sweet Empire, by Second Empire) made a winning debut over hurdles in the Prix de Navarrenx.

The winning distance was three and a half lengths, with fellow newcomer and stablemate Motu Fareone (Getaway) completing a 1-2 for their sire, owner Pierre de Maleissye Melun and breeder S Gorman.

Earlier in the day at Ludlow, Getaway Totherock (6m Getaway - Theft, by Silver Patriarch) ran out a ten length winner of the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle for trainer Alastair Ralph, who also owns the mare in partnership.

It marked the bay’s second start over hurdles, having previously won two point-to-points for breeder Eugene O’Sullivan.
