Festival Dilemma For Unbeaten Soldier Of Fortune Gelding
A step up in class is now on the cards for Favour And Fortune (5g Soldier Of Fortune - Fleur Rose, by Flemensfirth) after Alan King’s charge made it two from two in good style at Warwick.
The son of Soldier Of Fortune ran out a clear winner on debut in November and was sent off favourite to defy a penalty in Saturday’s bumper. Once again, the bay travelled strongly throughout and improved to lead from two furlongs out. Shaken up to draw clear approaching the final furlong, he kept on strongly to score by seven and a half lengths.
“Favour And Fortune was very impressive with a penalty,” the winning rider said after the race. “He put a lot of distance between him and the other horses and it didn't look a bad bumper on paper so he's obviously smart. He's really powerful and has a good future.” Looking to the future, Cannon added, “I don't know whether he goes to Cheltenham or Aintree but whichever it is he's probably up to that level.”
Bred by Ballymorisheen Stables, Favour And Fortune carries the colours of the late Trevor Hemmings.
