Flemensfirth Mare On Track For Aintree Aim
Wednesday saw Grand National runner-up Magic Of Light (8m Flemensfirth - Quest Of Passion, by Saumarez) land back-to-back runnings of the Listed Mares’ Chase at Newbury.
The Jessica Harrington-trained mare was sent off favourite and made all the running under Robbie Power. Field Exhibition produced a strong challenge with four to jump, but after stumbling and unseating at the final fence, left the glory to Magic Of Light, who won by a distance.
Speaking after the race, the winning jockey said, “That was ideal, a nice school round and the further she went the better. She pinged the last and galloped right away. She feels bigger and stronger this year and has been in unbelievable form since she came back in. That's a real nice confidence-booster.”
A return to Aintree is on the cards for Magic Of Light, who runs in the colours of Ann and Alan Potts Limited. The daughter of Flemensfirth was bred by Baronrath and Colbinstown Studs and is one of four black-type horses out of the mare.
