Four-Year-Old Completes Saturday Double For Getaway
Phantom Getaway (4g Getaway - Belle Provence, by Phantom Breeze) stayed on well to land the Four-Year-Old Geldings Maiden at Lisronagh, completing the first leg of a Saturday double for Grange Stud sire Getaway.
Ridden patiently by Pearse Rogan, he came from off the pace to lead at the final fence and ran on well to win by four lengths. Trained by Donnchadh Doyle, the winner was bred by Coppice Farm and Cleaboy Stud out of an own-sister to Grade 1 hurdler Bilboa.
Later that day at Hexham, talented hurdler Getareason (8g Getaway - Simple Reason, by Snurge) gained his first win over fences in the Beginners’ Chase over two and a half miles.
Tracking the leaders under Nathan Moscrop, the Rebecca Menzies-trained chesnut improved into second at the penultimate fence and led on the turn for home. Clear at the last, he kept on well to win by four and a quarter lengths.
Owned by Titanium Racing Club, Getareason had plenty of form, having finished second in his sole point-to-point and scored twice over hurdles, over which he was also Grade 1 placed for Willie Mullins. Bred by Roger English, he is the best performer out of Simple Reason.
