G2 victory for Mahler’s Sutton Place
The hugely-progressive Sutton Place (5g Mahler-Glebe Beauty, by Good Thyne) had his third victory in as many starts this year when taking the G2 Rathbarry & Glenview Studs Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse on Monday.
Trainer by Gordon Elliott for J P McManus, the Mahler gelding won a Listed contest on his previous start (pictured) and took this step up to graded company in his stride.
The Willie Mullins-trained Royal Caviar and Ruby Walsh tried hard to take the prize but Barry Geraghty held them off to score by half a length.
"He's a nice horse and was very green,” said Elliott. “I'd imagine that will probably be him for the year. He'll be a nice horse with a summer’s grass.
"Barry said it was a faster gallop than the last day and he's still a baby and very green. I'd imagine he'll go chasing next year.”
Bred by James Leahy, Sutton Place sold for 45,000 euros at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale.
