Game Getaway Mare Gains Maiden Hurdle Win
Emily Roebling (9m Getaway - Mae Mobley, by Saffron Walden) dug deep to gain a deserved first win under rules in the Mares’ Maiden Hurdle at Wexford on Friday.
Previously successful in a Turtulla maiden, the Gerard Kelleher-trained mare had since proven consistent under rules and was well-supported to return to winning ways in the two and a half mile contest. Racing prominently under JJ Slevin, she improved to challenge after the third last and was ridden to lead at the final flight. Digging deep when challenged soon after, she rallied gamely to prevail by a short head on the line, as the front pair drew over nine lengths clear of the field.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “She is owned by great people and it's great to reward them for the trust they have put in me. I'd love to get a bit of black type with her as her owners as breeders.”
Emily Roebling is owned by Seamus Kennedy and was bred by Miss Elizabeth Kennedy.
