Game Mahler Mare Gains Deserved Maiden Win
Sunday saw Kilbarry Chloe (5m Mahler - Kilbarry Gem, by Bob’s Return) gain a deserved maiden success when making a winning hurdle debut at Wexford.
Con O’Keeffe’s homebred had been placed in four bumpers, including a game and close second to Bellatior (Walk In The Park) on her most recent start in November. She was sent off second favourite for the two mile mares’ maiden hurdle and tracked the leaders for much of the way under Mike O’Connor. Leading from the second last, she was ridden out on the run-in to score by a neck on the line.
Breeder, trainer and co-owner O’Keeffe commented after the race, “When you breed them it makes it all the more special and she had been knocking on the door. She is a real genuine mare and we have been waiting for the ground all year. She’ll go chasing next season.”
Kilbarry Chloe is a full-sister to chase winner Kilbarry Calling (Mahler) and has a four-year-old brother by Soldier Of Fortune who fetched €62,000 at last year’s store sales.
