Getaway Gorgeous Gains Deserved Win Over Hurdles
The Willie Mullins-trained Getaway Gorgeous (6m Getaway – Impudent, by In The Wings) gained a well-deserved win over hurdles at Wexford on Tuesday.
A bumper winner and Listed-placed last season, she since finished a close second on both her starts over hurdles and was subsequently sent off favourite for the Mares’ Maiden Hurdle over two miles. Paul Townend rode her to chase the leaders and produced a challenge at the second last, his mount improving to lead on the run-in. Keeping on well under pressure, she won by half a length on the line.
Speaking after the race, the winning jockey said, “She ran well on her last two runs and thankfully she put it all right today. She jumped well and in fairness she battled and stuck her head out in the finish.”
Owned by the Whitegrass Getaway Syndicate, Getaway Gorgeous has never finished out of the first two on all her seven starts. The daughter of Getaway was bred by Joe Rogers and is closely related to dual Grade 3 winner Rock The Kasbah.
