Getaway Katie Mai Wins Over Hurdles
Top bumper mare Getaway Katie Mai (5m Getaway - Carrigmoorna Style, by Dr Massini) looks bound for much success over hurdles after winning her maiden hurdle at Tramore on Thursday.
Sent off short-priced favourite under Mark Walsh, John Queally’s charge was ridden towards the back of the 15 horse field and made gradual progress from halfway. Taking second approaching the second last, she led before the final flights and extended her advantage to three and a half lengths on the line, as Roney (Flemensfirth) took second and Cordovan Brown (Flemensfirth) finished third.
The Grade 2 bumper winner was bred by Tom McCarthy and finished second in her sole point-to-point start for Queally and Michael Daly. She was bought by JP McManus privately at the end of last season.
