Getaway Mare Adds Hurdle Win To Fine Record

The Dan Skelton-trained Getariver (6m Getaway- Watson River, by Presenting) added to her consistent record when gaining her first win over hurdles at Ludlow on Thursday.

Successful on her sole point-to-point start and both her bumpers last season, she finished a promising fourth on her hurdle debut against the geldings last month. Harry Skelton adopted a change of tactics on Thursday and rode her to make all, asking her to quicken from two out, his mount obliging to score by a length and a quarter. The front pair finished ten lengths clear of a strung-out field.

Purchased after winning between the flags for breeder Damian Murphy, Getariver is now owned by Mr and Mrs Gordon Pink. The daughter of Grange Stud sire Getaway is out of an unraced half-sister to Watson Lake, a multiple Graded scorer over fences.
