Getaway Mare Beats The Boys To Double Up
Miss Zip (7m Getaway - Lady Lace, by Catcher In The Rye) defied a rise in the weights to take Thursday’s Novice Handicap Chase at Sedgefield, completing a smart across the card double for her sire.
A course and distance winner earlier in the month, she was the sole mare in the seven horse field. Adam Wedge rode her to chase the leaders, asking her to quicken from four out, his mount obliging to lead from the second last. Staying on well, she won by two lengths, with another 12 lengths back to the third horse.
Trained by Evan Williams for Tony Cromwell and partner, Miss Zip was bred by Gleadhill House Stud.
Earlier on the card, the Donald McCain-trained Heartbreak Kid (5g Getaway - Bella’s Bury, by Overbury) benefitted from favourite Adicci falling at the final flight to take the Novices’ Hurdle over two miles and one furlong.
It marked a second career success for the TG Leslie-owned bay, who won a point-to-point by all of 30 lengths for Colin Bowe last March. The son of Grange Stud sire Getaway was bred by Finian Magner.
