Getaway Mare Carries Familiar Colours To Debut Success
Crimbourne Bloodstock and Nicky Henderson continued their excellent success with daughters of Getaway when winning the Mares’ Bumper at Bangor on Saturday with newcomer Vegas Blue (4m Getaway - Bella Venezia, by Milan).
The connections of Grade 1 winner Verdana Blue (Getaway) and Barbados Blue (Getaway), a 30 length winner over hurdles earlier in the week, saw their newest charge sent off second favourite under James Bowen. Ridden in mid-division, the bay made headway from three furlongs out and chased down the leader over two furlongs from home. Pushed to lead approaching the final furlong, she ran on to beat the favourite, a previous winner, by three lengths, ears pricked.
Bred by Frank Motherway, Vegas Blue was bought by Highflyer Bloodstock for €30,000 at the Derby Sale at Tattersalls Ireland. She is a full-sister to Rathhill (Getaway), a winner of his hurdle debut for the same stable, while their dam is closely related to multiple Grade 1 winner Bellshill.
A Walk In The Park half-brother to Vegas Blue sold for €65,000 to Ben Case and Kevin Ross at last year’s Tattersalls Ireland November NH Sale.
