Getaway Mare Completes Impressive Hat Trick
Wednesday saw Letterston Lady (4f Getaway - Whenskiesareblue, by Presenting) make an impressive start over hurdles at Worcester to make it three from three this season.
Placed on both her starts last season, the Peter Bowen-trained mare won a bumper on return, before drawing 11 lengths clear under a penalty last month. Sent off favourite for the mares’ novices’ hurdle, she was travelling well when producing a challenge at the second last and led at the final flight. Soon clear, she scored by a comfortable eight lengths under Sean Bowen.
Bred by Peel Bloodstock, the exciting mare is owned by S Williams, J Brace and A Davies.
Earlier that afternoon at Fontwell, Time Flies By (7g Getaway - What A Mewsment, by Persian Mews) led home a 1-2 for Grange Stud sires in the maiden hurdle over two miles and three furlongs.
A debut winner of a bumper at Cheltenham, Nicky Henderson’s charge gained black-type on his next two starts and went on to finish second over hurdles on three occasions. Sent off favourite to go one better on Wednesday, the JP McManus-owned chesnut was shaken up at the second last by James Bowen. Pushed along to lead approaching the next, he was ridden out on the run-in to beat Camulus (Walk In The Park) by three and a half lengths.
Bought by Kieran McManus at the store sales for £88,000, Time Flies By was bred by Hugh O’Connor.
