Getaway Mare Draws Clear On Hurdle Debut
Flight Of Freedom (5m Getaway - Dahara, by Take Risks) made an impressive return to action in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Warwick on Thursday.
Runner-up in a bumper last season, the Emma Lavelle-trained mare was sent off favourite on her hurdle debut and first start since April. Racing over two miles, she was ridden prominently by Tom Bellamy and led from the second last. Clear after the final flight, she ran on well on the run-in to score by eight and a half lengths.
“She jumped beautifully today,” Lavelle said after the race. “I was quite impressed with her today as I know she will improve on that. Tom (Bellamy) said she probably wants a bit further than two miles in time, but she loves her jumping and she has a little bit of class.”
Bred by Pat McGrath, Flight Of Freedom is owned by the Cheltenham and South West Racing Club.
