Kilbarry Chianti (Getaway) Wins The Mares Maiden Hurdle At Kilbeggan

Getaway Mare Gives Cause For Celebration

Kilbarry Chianti (5m Getaway - Tropical Lilly, by Saddlers’ Hall) gained a deserved maiden win when leading home a 1-2 for Getaway in the Mares’ Maiden Hurdle at Kilbeggan.

Placed in five bumpers, the Con O’Keeffe-trained chesnut was sent off second favourite as she dropped down to two miles and three furlongs. Racing prominently under Mark McDonagh, she was pushed along to lead approaching the final flight and was ridden out to beat Knocknagappagh (Getaway) by three parts of a length.

Friday’s win was particularly special for connections, with Kilbarry Chianti having been bred by Thomas O’Keeffe and owned by Mrs Con O’Keeffe and Tadhg O’Sullivan.

“She's a home-bred filly from a family that we've had for 16 or 17 years,” the winning trainer explained. “She's from a wonderful family, her dam is a half-sister to Tropical Lady. I'm delighted to get the win with her as she had run well in a few bumpers early on.”
