Getaway Mare Makes Perfect Start Over Hurdles

Winter Getaway (6m Getaway - Galzig, by King’s Theatre) made a winning start to her hurdling career when claiming the Maiden Hurdle at Stratford on Thursday.

A dual winner between the flags for Michael Winters and owner/breeder Edmond Cogan, she was subsequently purchased by Philip Hobbs and the Kingpins and finished third on her bumper debut in early October.

She stepped back up to two miles and six furlongs for her hurdle bow and was held up at the back of the field by champion jockey Richard Johnson. Improving to chase the leader from three out, she led at the next and was ridden out to win by two and a quarter lengths.

Winter Getaway is the first foal out of her dam, who also has a four-year-old by Mahler.
