Getaway Sires Impressive Weekend Double

Kepagge (6g Getaway – Miracle Lady, by Bob’s Return) extended his unbeaten record under rules when racing clear to win Saturday’s Novices’ Hurdle at Doncaster.

The David Pipe-trained bay won a bumper in November and went on to win his first start over hurdles the following month. Carrying a penalty on his latest start, he was ridden patiently at the back of the field, with Tom Scudamore waiting until three out to make his move. Leading approaching the second last, he stayed on well to win by nine lengths.

Scudamore was evidently impressed by the winner and later said, “He's done it nicely again under a penalty. He's jumped well in the main after doing plenty of schooling at home. He's a really nice horse.”

Now owned by Mrs Sarah Ling, Keppage was purchased privately after making just one start in a point-to-point for Vincent Halley. He was bred by Gareth Adair and is a half-brother to the useful Catching On (Milan) and Streets Of Promise (Westerner).

Lunar Display (4f Getaway – Lunar Beauty, by Milan) completed a double for her Grange Stud sire over the weekend when making a winning debut at Leopardstown on Sunday.

The filly was one of six to line up for the two mile bumper, with Oakley Brown riding her to chase the leaders, improving to dispute second as they approached the turn for home. Ridden to lead with a furlong and a half to race, she dug deep under pressure to prevail by a head on the line, with another three and a quarter lengths back to previous bumper winner Homme D’un Soir in third.

The win was a family affair, with Lunar Display trained by Joseph O’Brien for his mother Anne-Marie, who bred the chesnut under the Whisperview Tracing banner. Joseph also trained Lunar Display’s half-sister Kalopsia (Flemensfirth) to gain black-type over hurdles.
