Getaway Sires Point-to-Point Maiden Double
Grange Stud sire Getaway sired a weekend double of point-to-point maiden winners, beginning with Getawaytonewbay (6m Getaway - Boozy Lee, by Dr Massini) capturing the Six-Year-Old mares Maiden at Durrow on Saturday.
The Vincent Devereux-trained mare had caught the eye last time out when finishing second against the opposite sex at Lingstown. Once again ridden by Shane O’Rourke, her maiden victory came by an authoritative four lengths, with a further ten lengths back to the third horse. Owned by James Devereux, Getawaytonewbay was bred by John Gaul.
The following day at Liscarroll, Michael Winters trained Edmond Cogan’s homebred Winter Getaway (6m Getaway - Galzig, by King’s Theatre) to win the Mares Maiden on just her second start.
Ridden to lead from two out by Chris O’Donovan, she ran on well to beat the favourite West Vintage (Westerner) by four lengths. The sales ring may now be the planned destination for Winter Getaway, whose four-year-old half-sister Hand In My Pocket (Mahler) is in training with Mary Doyle.
