Getaway’s Getabird heads to Cheltenham as Bumper favourite

The Willie Mullins-trained Getabird (5g Getaway-Fern Bird, by Revoque) had little more than a practice stroll as he justified 1/10 favouritism to capture the bumper at Gowran Park on Thursday. The son of Getaway, also a winning pointer, is now two from two under Rules and is a warm favourite for the G1 Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival “It was a good performance considering that they went slow and it ended up a sprint finish,” said Mullins.  “We know he has stamina from Fairyhouse and we know he has speed from here. “He’s improving all the time I think and he’ll go straight now to Cheltenham. Patrick (Mullins) said he galloped the whole way to the line in Fairyhouse so it was a good performance to actually sprint like the did there, giving away weight.” Patrick Mullins continued: “He showed that he gallops at Fairyhouse and also that he has gears today. He has everything and I think he’s a horse for Cheltenham. He’ll go on the ground, he’ll handle a strong gallop and he’s able to pick up.”

Bred by Pat Connell, Getabird changed hands for €200,000 at the Goffs Punchestown Sale in April.
