Domitian (Getaway) Wins At Clonmel

Gutsy Getaway Mare Battles For Bumper Win

Domitian (4m Getaway - Gaelic Million, by Strong Gale) showed a gutsy attitude when justifying favoritism in the mares bumper at Clonmel on Friday evening.

Successful in a mares maiden at Bellurgan Park for Colin Bowe in April, the Gigginstown House Stud owned mare finished second on her first start for gordon Elliott at Tipperary last month.

Her fine form saw her sent off the even-money favourite on Friday and she tracked the leader for much of the way under Lisa O’Neill. Disputing the lead two furlongs from home, she was headed approaching the final furlong, but dug deep to rally back and regain the advantage 100 yards from the line. Running on well, she beat promising newcomer Hophornbeam (Yeats) by half a length, with another length back to Eva’s Diva (Getaway) in third.

Bred by Ms Cora Cronin, Domitian was bought by Elliott for €36,000 at the Goffs Landrover Sale. She is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Sumos Novios (Flemensfirth) and Rendlesham Hurdle victor Cross Kennon.
