Hat-Trick Earns Son Of Getaway An Albert Bartlett Entry
Saturday saw Barbados Buck’s (6g Getaway - Buck’s Blue, by Epervier Bleu) defy a penalty to complete a hat-trick in the three mile Novices’ Hurdle at Kempton.
Shouldering a ten pound penalty for his two previous successes, the Paul Nicholls-trained bay was sent off favourite under Harry Cobden, who rode him to track the leader. Disputing from halfway, he asserted at the third last and went clear from the final flight, running on to score by four lengths.
Speaking after the race, the in-form winning trainer said, “Barbados Buck’s is going to be a lovely staying chaser one day and he did really well to keep galloping there under a 10lb penalty.” On future plans, he added, “There are nice staying novice hurdles at Doncaster and Haydock and Harry thinks we should give him an entry for the Albert Bartlett.”
Owned by the Stewart Family, Barbados Buck’s was bought by Nicholls and Tom Malone for €210,000 after showing great promise on his sole start for Richard Black. The son of Getaway was bred by Philip Hore Junior out of a half-sister to the top-class Big Buck’s.
