Smart Bumper Winner for Getaway
The well-bred Time Flies By (5g Getaway - What A Mewsment, by Persian Mews) emerged as an exciting prospect when making a winning debut in Saturday’s bumper at Cheltenham.
The two mile and half furlong contest has previously produced the likes of Southfield Theatre, Moon Racer and Clondaw Warrior and 15 lined up for the latest renewal. Time Flies By raced in mid-division under Barry Geraghty and began to make headway from three furlongs out. Full of running in the straight, he was travelling well when producing a challenge over a furlong out and led close home, beating the favourite Butte Montana by a length and three quarters.
Trained by Nicky Henderson for JP McManus, Time Flies By was bought by Kieran McManus for £88,000 as a three-year-old. A €31,000 yearling, he was bred by Hugh O’Connor out of a sister to Celestial Gold. Time Flies By’s siblings include black-type hurdler Whatsdajazz (Yeats), Listed winner Welsh Shadow and useful chaser Klepht.
