Impressive Grade 1 Victory For Son Of Getaway

Feronily (6g Getaway - Vickeeto, by Old Vic) produced a phenomenal performance on just his second start over fences to win the Grade 1 Champion Novice Chase at the Punchestown Festival.

The son of Getaway impressed on his sole start for Ellmarie Holden and made his rules debut for Emmet Mullins in December, going on to place in a Grade 2 bumper, win a maiden hurdle and finish second in a Grade 3 on his chasing bow. The Paul Byrne-owned bay was the youngest horse in Tuesday’s field, but defied his inexperience by making most of the running under Donagh Meyler. Ridden from two out, he dug deep on the run-in to deny multiple Grade 1 winner Appreciate It by a length and three quarters.

It marked a first Grade 1 winner for trainer Emmet Mullins, who captured last year’s Grand National with talented novice Noble Yeats (Yeats). “Feronily is progressing with each run and is an exciting horse to have,” the trainer said. “He's such a good jumper and we saw that in the point-to-point field, which was part of the reason why we purchased him. We weren't going to waste time (over hurdles) as we knew we had a horse who was progressing and we wanted to get the most out of him.”

The son of Grange Stud sire Getaway is the best performer bred by Thomas O’Brien out of the unraced mare Vickeeto.
