Impressive Maiden Hurdle Winner Continues Fine Run For Mahler
The Gordon Elliott-trained Torygraph (5g Mahler - Oddly Presented, by Presenting) built on a promising hurdle debut to win Saturday’s maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse in impressive fashion.
The Gigginstown House Stud-owned bay was placed in two bumpers, including a fine second behind subsequent Grade 1 performer The Big Getaway (Getaway), and finished a close second on his first start over hurdles last month.
Stepping up to almost three miles at the weekend, he was sent off favourite under Jack Kennedy and chased the leaders for much of the way. Asserting with ease after the third last, he was headed on the turn for home, but regained the advantage at the penultimate flight, before racing clear to win by 13 lengths.
Speaking after the race, Jack Kennedy said, “He’s done it well and jumped great. I didn’t realise how far clear I was.”
Bred by Thomas Meagher, Torygraph was bought by Elliott as a three-year-old for €72,000. The full-brother to useful chaser Presenting Mahler (Mahler) continues an excellent run for Beeches Stud sire Mahler.
