Impressive Mare Completes Double For Getaway
Letterston Lady (4f Getaway - Whenskiesareblue, by Presenting) confirmed herself an exciting prospect when running out an effortless winner of Friday’s bumper at Newton Abbot.
Placed on both her starts last season, the Peter Bowen-trained filly got off the mark in fine style last month and carried a penalty against geldings on Friday. Sent off favourite under Sean Bowen, the daughter of Getaway led from over two furlongs out and boasted a clear advantage a furlong later. The chesnut needed little encouragement to lead by 11 lengths on the line.
Owned by S Williams, J Brace and A Davies, Letterston Lady was bred by Peel Bloodstock out of a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Verdana Blue (Getaway).
Nifty Getaway (6m Getaway - Buttonboard, by Accordion) completed the first leg of a double for Getaway on the card when justifying favouritism in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle.
The winner of a bumper last season, Archie Watson’s charge was partnered by Gavin Sheehan on her hurdle debut and led from the early stages. Headed at the final flight, the bay dug deep to regain the lead on the run-in and kept on well to win by a length and a quarter. Lady Jane P (Walk In The Park) finished a gallant second and drew 13 lengths clear of the field.
Nifty Getaway is owned by Hambleton Racing and was bred by Oliver Loughlin.
