Mahler Mare All Guts In Maiden Hurdle Victory
Point-to-point winner Fresh Appeal (5m Mahler – Lady Appeal, by Phardante) transferred her talent to hurdling when beating the short-priced favourite Lorvon Pearl at Clonmel on Wednesday.
Successful at Boulta in December, the Michelle Duggan-trained mare was making her second start over hurdles on Wednesday and was one of 10 to line up for the mares’ maiden hurdle. Philip Enright rode her to chase the leaders, switching right to challenge after the second last and the bay kept on well under pressure to lead on the run-in, winning by a length.
Fresh Appeal is owned by Sean Leahy, who bred the daughter of Mahler with Batt Leahy. She is a closely related to Grade 2 winner Fox Appeal and useful chaser Master Appeal.
