Mahler Mare Creates Favourable Impression On Debut
Carrigeen Kampala (4f Mahler - Carrigeen Kariega, by Luso) shaped like a nice prospect on Monday when beating the well-backed favourite in the mares’ bumper at Newton Abbot.
Fergal O’Brien’s newcomer was not without market support herself for the two mile and one furlong contest, in which she was held up by Liam Harrison. Making headway as they turned for home, she became short of room when challenging a furlong out, but soon led. Running on well, she scored by two and a quarter lengths, as Irish raider and previous bumper winner Come On Du Berlais was forced to settle for second.
Carrigeen Kampala carries the colours of the National Hunt Racing Club and becomes the first winner bred by Mrs RH Lalor out of dual winner Carrigeen Kariega.
