Mahler Mare Remains Unbeaten Over Fences
Saturday saw Annie Mc (6m Mahler - Classic Mari, by Classic Cliche) make it two from two over fences when justifying favoritism in the Mares’ Novices’ Chase at Wetherby.
Successful in a valuable Grade 2 over hurdles at the end of last season, the Jonjo O’Neill-trained mare made a winning start to her chase career last month. Jonjo O’Neill Junior positioned her to track the leaders, pushing her to lead approaching the final fence and kept on well to win by four lengths
Representing owners the Coral Champions Club, Chris Hughes commented after the race, “That was superb. Annie Mc is something special, isn't she? This was a lot hotter than Boxing day but she's done it extremely well.”
Bred by Jay Kavanagh, Annie Mc was second on both her starts in point-to-points for Sean Doyle before being sold to current connections.
