Maxios Colt Strengthens German Derby Hopes
German Derby entry Palm Springs (3c Maxios – Panatella, by Medicean) went some way to supporting the hopes of connections when making a winning debut at Hannover on Thursday.
One of 13 to line up for the ten furlong maiden, he led after the first furlong and quickened well from a furlong and a half out to win by two lengths under Lukas Delozier. Trained by H Blume for Stall Moriki’s Friends, the son of Maxios was bred by Frau A and L-W Baumgarten.
Palm Springs is the first foal out of Panatella, a winning half-sister to Stakes winner The Twisler and comes from the family of top-class middle-distance performer Pentire. He hails from the third crop of Maxios, who now stands as a national hunt sire at Castlehyde Stud. His progeny have made an excellent start over hurdles, led by Cheltenham Festival victor Aramax.
