Maxios Mare Draws Clear On Hurdle Debut

Ucanaver (5m Maxios - Purely By Chance, by Galileo) made a bright start to the season when justifying favouritism in the mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Worcester on Wednesday.

An impressive winner of a bumper last season, the Anthony Honeyball-trained mare had not been seen since March, but was well-supported on her hurdle debut. Chasing the leader for much of the way under Rex Dingle, she produced a challenge at the third last and was shaken up to lead approaching the penultimate flight. Racing clear on the run-in, she scored by seven and a half lengths, with another 15 lengths back to the third horse.

Bred by Lady Jennifer Green, Ucanaver hails from the second crop of Castlehyde Stud sire Maxios.
