Classic Getaway (Getaway) Wins The Maiden Hurdle At Punchestown

More To Come From Classic Getaway After Maiden Hurdle Win

Classic Getaway (6g Getaway - Classic Magic, by Classic Cliché) ran out a comfortable winner of Monday’s maiden hurdle at Punchestown, adding to his impressive point-to-point and bumper wins.

A promising second to veteran stablemate Cash Back on hurdle debut, the Willie Mullins-trained gelding was sent off favourite to go one better under Paul Townend. Tracking the leaders for much of the two and a half mile contest, he asserted on the turn for home and was shaken up approaching the final flight. Staying on well on the run-in, he scored by four lengths and three quarters.

There should be plenty of improvement from the Cheveley Park Stud-owned winner, according to Mullins. The son of Getaway cruised 15 lengths clear on his first start for the team in May, having been purchased for £570,000 after an impressive point-to-point success for Donnchadh Doyle. He was bred by Daniel Fogarty and hails from the family of Kristenson.
