More To Come From Mahler Mare After Bumper Victory
Coolmore NH sires dominated Wednesday’s bumper at Punchestown, which saw the Padraig Roche-trained Line Break (4f Mahler - Stand In Line, by Flemensfirth) oblige in the colours of breeder John Power.
The chesnut showed promise on debut in a maiden hurdle at the track last month, but potential success was dismissed by a fall at the second last flight. Third in the betting in a field of 12, she chased the leaders under Derek O’Connor and was travelling well in second as they turned for home. Improving to lead with a furlong and a half left to race, she stayed on well under pressure to win by four and a quarter lengths from promising newcomer Part Time Farmer (Westerner) in second.
Speaking after the race, Padraig Roche said, “Line Break is a nice filly. She was running a nice race in a maiden hurdle here last month before she tipped up and she has improved since then. We will do best by her, maybe she'll have a go at that Listed bumper for four-year-olds at Limerick next month, but that's up to the owners.”
John Power’s homebred is the second foal out of an unraced half-sister to Falcon Crest (Milan), who Christy Roche trained to win the Grade 2 Monksfield Novice Hurdle.
