Pair Of Impressive Maiden Winners By Mahler
As well as siring a Grade 2 winner under rules, Beeches Stud sire Mahler was responsible for a pair of impressive maiden winners between the flags over the weekend.
Check The Score (5g Mahler - Summer Again, by Scorpion) kicked off a fine weekend for his sire when drawing nine lengths clear in the Five-Year-Old Geldings Maiden at Kirkistown. Ridden by handler Rob James, the bay raced prominently throughout and jumped well to assert at the second last. Quickening on the turn for home, he boasted a clear advantage at the final fence and kept on well to win in good style.
A trip to the sales ring is now on the agenda for Check The Score, who is owned by the Matchmaker Syndicate. Bred by Mrs R. Molony, he becomes the first winner out of the mare Summer Again.
At Scarteen the following day, Boss Robin (7g Mahler - How Is Things, by Norwich) made an impressive debut in maiden for five-year-olds and upwards.
Trained by John Gleeson for Aidan Archdeacon, the well-supported newcomer led from the third fence and barely saw another rival thereafter. Ray Barron steered the son of Mahler to a 16 lengths victory.
Bred by Oliver Loughlin, Boss Robin is closely related to black-type hurdler Little Boy Boru.
