Domitian (Getaway) winning a 4yo mares maiden at Bellurgan Park

Pair Of Taking Maiden P2P Winners For Getaway

Domitian (4m Getaway - Gaelic Million, by Strong Gale) completed the first leg of a Sunday maiden double by her Grange Stud sire when winning the four-year-old mares maiden at Bellurgan Park.

The Gigginstown House Stud-owned mare (pictured right) made most of the running under Barry O’Neill and after being headed three from home, showed an admirable attitude to battle back to regain the lead after the second last. Staying on well, she beat the favourite Doin’whatshelikes by a length and a half, with a further 12 lengths back to the third horse.

Domitian was bred by Cora Cronin and was sold to Gordon Elliott for €36,000 at the Goffs Landrover Sale. She is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Cross Kennon and Grade 3 winner Sumos Novios (Flemensfirth).

Later in the afternoon at Ballysteen, Getaway Mag (5m Getaway - Aggies Girl, by Overbury) won the mares maiden for father and son team John and James Walsh.

Looking to have every chance when carried out on debut at Courtown, it was a just reward for the bay mare, who was bred by James Kirwan and runs in the colours of her handler. Leading from two out, she rallied bravely to hold off a challenge by Awesome Lady on the line.
