Progressive Getaway Mare Gets Off The Mark
Nifty Getaway (6m Getaway - Buttonboard, by Accordion) built on a promising rules debut to take the mares’ bumper at Ayr on Tuesday.
Unlucky not to win a point-to-point for Gerard Lawless, the Oliver Loughlin-bred bay finished third on her first start for Archie Watson in December. Tackling heavy ground for the first time at Ayr, she raced prominently under Nick Scholfield and was shaken up to lead from three furlongs out. Pushed clear a furlong later, she ran on well to beat the favourite, a previous winner, by two lengths.
Owned by Hambleton Racing, Nifty Getaway becomes the first winner out of Buttonboard, whose Walk In The Park colt fetched €60,000 at the 2020 foal sales.
