Progressive Getaway Mare Lands Listed Bumper
Quiet Escape (6m Getaway - Ballinattna Girl, by Oscar) made it two from two for the Mark Molloy stable when landing the Listed Mares’ Bumper at Gowran on Friday.
Successful in a bumper in August, John Wade’s homebred dropped back to two miles for her black-type bow and was held up by Jamie Codd. Switched left to make headway from four furlongs out, she was pushed along approaching the two furlong marker and soon led. Running on strongly, she went clear inside the final furlong to win by three and a half lengths.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “She’s always been a lovely mare so it’s nice to see it come to fruition. It’s just a matter of keeping her sweet and being able to use that pace.”
Earlier that day at Fontwell, Zacony Rebel (6g Getaway - Bay Rebel, by Oscar) ran out a comfortable winner of the Novices’ Hurdle under James Bowen.
Racing in midfield for much of the way, the Toby Lawes-trained bay improved from three out and was pushed along to lead from the final flight. Keeping on well, he scored by five and a half lengths, with another seven and a half lengths back to the third horse.
Owned by Andrew and Sarah Wates, the son of Getaway was bred by Brendan Walsh.
