Progressive Pair Complete Double For Getaway
Barbados Buck’s (5g Getaway - Buck’s Blue, by Epervier Blue) rallied to complete back-to-back course and distance wins at Southwell on Tuesday.
The Paul Nicholls-trained bay was sent off favourite for the three mile Novices’ Hurdle and tracked the leaders for much of the way under Harry Cobden. Travelling well when joining the leader approaching two out, he was headed at the final flight, but battled back to regain the advantage close home. The winning margin was a neck, as the first two home finished 18 lengths clear of their rivals.
Nicholls and Tom Malone purchased the son of Getaway for the Stewart Family for €210,000, after the bay finished a promising second on debut for Richard Black. Bred by Philip Hore Junior, he is one of three winners by the sire out of Buck’s Blue, herself a half-sister to Big Buck’s.
Barbados Buck’s completed a double on the card for his Grange Stud sire, following an impressive chase debut by Getaway Mag (6m Getaway - Aggies Girl, by Overbury) in the opening Novices’ Mares’ Chase.
Successful between the flags for John Walsh and a winner over hurdles for Dan Skelton, the June Watts-owned mare stepped up to three miles on Tuesday and made virtually all the running under Harry Skelton. Pushed along from three out, she stayed on well on the run-in to score by 11 lengths.
Bred by James Kirwan, Getaway Mag comes from the family of Any Second Now.
