Progressive Son Of Mahler Follows Up At Thurles
Torygraph (6g Mahler - Oddly Presented, by Presenting) followed up on last month’s impressive victory when landing the W.T. O’Grady Memorial Novice hurdle at Thurles.
Gordon Elliott’s charge was placed on his first two starts over hurdles before winning a maiden hurdle by 13 lengths, and remained over that two mile and seven furlong trip on Wednesday. He tracked the leaders under Jack Kennedy, improving to lead from two out and fought off a pair of strong challenges to win by three lengths and three quarters. Angels Dawn (Yeats), the sole mare in the field, made a promising start to her hurdle career in second.
Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “Torygraph is a lovely horse and he's improved since Fairyhouse.”
A step up in class may be next on the agenda for the Gigginstown House Stud-owned winner, who was bought by his trainer for €72,000 as a store. Bred by Thomas Meagher, he is a full-brother to talented chaser Presenting Mahler (Mahler).
