Promising Mahler Mare Impresses Over Fences
The progressive Crossgalesfamegame (7m Mahler - Fame Forever, by King’s Theatre) produced a smart performance to land the Mares’ Novices’ Chaset at Huntingdon on Saturday.
A promising second on chase debut earlier in the month, the Sandy Thomson-trained bay chased the leaders under Edward Austin and kept on strongly when asked from two out. Leading on the run-in, she went clear to score by eight and a half lengths from the even-money favourite.
Owned by J Fyffe and S Townshend, Crossgalesfamegame previously won over hurdles and was placed in a Class 2 contest last season. Bred by Robert McCarthy, the daughter of Mahler hails from the family of Noland.
Shortly beforehand at Gowran Park, the Philip Fenton-trained Secret Cargo (7g Mahler - Duffys Hall, by Saddlers’ Hall) returned to winning ways in the two and a half mile Beginners Chase.
Ridden from the third last, he kept on well to lead at the final fence and ran on strongly to score by two lengths under Mikey Hamill. Placed twice previously over fences, the MJ Daly-owned gelding is also a winner over hurdles.
