Promising Performers Become Latest Winners By Getaway
The Nicky Richards-trained Headscarf Lil (6m Getaway - Bleu Money, by Pistolet Blue) gained a deserved maiden win when taking the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Musselburgh on Monday.
Owned by Tarzan Bloodstock and Oliver Brownlee, the James Barry bred daughter of Getaway was placed on three of her four starts in bumpers and was well-supported on her hurdle debut. Sean Quinlan rode her to track the leaders, asking her to quicken from three out and the bay made headway at the second last. Staying on well on the run-in, she led close home to score by a neck.
The following day at Southwell, Get Your Own (5g Getaway - Western Girl, by Westerner) made a successful drop down in trip to take the two mile maiden hurdle.
Promising between the flags for Pat Doyle, the David Connors-bred gelding was making his second start for Alex Hales and raced towards the back of the field under Harry Bannister. Making good headway from three out, he was ridden to lead at the final flight and kept on well to prevail by a length and three quarters on the line.
