Promising Son Of Getaway Impresses On Stable Debut

Getaway Drumlee (6g Getaway - Miss Leele, by Croco Rouge) made a smart start for the Ben Pauling stable when running out a commanding winner of Tuesday’s Novices’ Hurdle at Hereford.

The son of Getaway was purchased privately after winning his second start between the flags for Sean McParlan in April and was sent off favourite on his first start under rules. Racing prominently throughout under Kielan Woods, he drew clear from two out and went on to score by a comfortable four and three quarter lengths. The first two home finished 16 lengths clear of the field.

Now owned by Mrs G Collier, Getaway Drumlee was bred by Paddy Stack.

Kilbunny Pontic (5m Getaway - Littlemissfit, by King’s Theatre) is another who showed great promise between the flags and on Thursday gained a deserved win over hurdles at Tramore.

A 12 length winner of a four-year-old maiden for Richard O’Hara, she made a perfect start for David O’Brien in a bumper last season and finished second on her first two starts over hurdles. Sent off favourite to go one better in the mares’ maiden hurdle, she led from the penultimate flight under Sean Flanagan and was soon ridden as challengers loomed. Clear at the last, she kept on well to deny impressive bumper winner Champagnesocialist (Fame And Glory) by two and a quarter lengths.

“She is a classy enough mare,” the winning rider later said. “She’s very hardy and has galloped all the way to the line. Jumping was her forte really - she is very good to jump.”
