Smart Newcomer Kicks Off Getaway Double At Rathcannon
Lady Jago (4m Getaway - Clara Mc Cloud, by Cloudings) defied testing conditions to make a winning debut in the Four-Year-Old Mares Maiden at Rathcannon on Sunday.
Positioned in midfield by Darragh Allen, the Terence O’Brien-trained mare improved to track the leaders approaching the second last. Disputing at the final fence, she ran on well to assert on the run-in and led by two and a half lengths on the line.
Owned by Brendan Hurley and was bred by D Condon, Lady Jago completed the first leg of a double on the card for Grange Stud sire Getaway.
Later that afternoon, Getaway Theatre (5m Getaway - Alpine Breeze, by King’s Theatre) built on a promising debut to take the Mares Maiden for Five and Six-Year-Olds.
The Paul Pierce-trained mare finished fourth at Belclare last month and was reunited with young rider Eoin Stables on Sunday. Racing towards the back of the field for much of the way, the bay improved to track the leaders from three out and led by the next. Asserting on the run-in, she led by four lengths on the line, while One For Daisy (Mahler) took second.
The daughter of Getaway becomes the first winner bred by Michael O’Regan out of Alpine Breeze.
