Smart Prospects Complete Treble For Getaway
Getaway Luv (6g Getaway - Ut Love, by Ballingarry) completed an across the card treble for Getaway on Thursday when justifying favouritism in the Novices’ Hurdle at Ludlow.
Returning from a break, the Olly Murphy-trained bay defied a penalty for his impressive maiden hurdle success in November and has been placed on his two other starts over hurdles. Owned by C Boultbee-Brooks, the son of Getaway was bred by Elliot Teehan and cost connections €64,000 as a three-year-old.
Earlier that day at Sedgefield, Return Ticket (8g Getaway- Capelvenere, by Barathea) ran out an impressive 40 length winner of the Novices’ Chase under Henry Brooke.
Trained by Rebecca Menzies for John Wade, the Michael Ward-bred bay was recording his second win over fences, having previously won a bumper and scored twice over hurdles.
Meanwhile, at Cork, the Patrick Neville-trained Glentraun (6g Getaway - Mac Idol, by Turtle Island) led home a 1-2-3 for Grange Stud sires in the first division of the maiden hurdle.
Delivered at the last by Gary Noonan, he ran on well on the run-in to win by two and a quarter lengths from the favourite The Greek (Leading Light), while Emily Roebling (Getaway) kept on for third.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “He ran in a good race the last day and is a lovely horse who will hopefully make a lovely chaser.”
Glentraun was bred by Michael Condon out of his homebred point-to-point winner Mac Idol.
