Smart Son Of Getaway Returns With A Win
Carnfunnock (5g Getaway - Simply Erin, by Gamut) made a successful seasonal return to record a second bumper win at Down Royal on Friday.
A winner on his second start and Grade 2 placed next time out, Stuart Crawford’s charge was sent off second favourite for the extended two mile contest under Ben Crawford. Travelling strongly throughout, he was going best with two furlongs left to race and soon took the lead. Quickening under hands and heels, he ran on to score by a length and a quarter, as pricey point-to-point purchase Better Days Ahead (Milan) did his best to narrow the gap. The pair finished a distance clear of the third.
Speaking after the race, Stuart Crawford said, “Carnfunnock has strengthened up and progressed well. I imagine we will go over hurdles now.”
Carnfunnock is owned by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, who purchased the bay privately after his debut third in the Goffs Land Rover Bumper. Bred by Edward McMahon, the son of Getaway hails from the family of Mount Benbulben.
