Dee Capo (Maxios) Wins The Bumper At Galway

Smart Son Of Maxios Draws Clear In Bumper

Dee Capo (4g Maxios - Walkure, by Nathaniel) drew clear of his rivals to run out an impressive winner of Tuesday’s bumper at Galway.

The €230,000 store sale buy had been sent off second favourite on debut in the valuable George Mernagh Memorial Bumper in which he finished a promising sixth. Gordon Elliott’s high regard for his charge were made further apparent last week when the trainer bought Dee Capo’s half-brother for €300,000.

The son of Maxios encountered the most testing ground yet at Galway and chased the leader for much of the way under Harry Swan. Ridden to lead approaching the two furlong pole, he was soon clear and ran on well to score by eight and a half lengths.

Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “He is a big staying chaser and for those type of horses it often takes a couple of runs. I'm delighted with him and he'll probably go hurdling now - he might be a very nice horse.”

Owned by David L’Estrange, the son of Castlehyde Stud sire Maxios was bred by Haras de la Perelle.
