Soldier Of Fortune Mare Makes Perfect Start At Oldcastle
Coolmore NH sires enjoyed the perfect start to the 2021/2022 Irish point-to-point season, as Reddys Island (4f Soldier Of Fortune - Gwendoliner, by) led home a 1-2-3 for Beeches Stud sires in the opening contest of the season at Oldcastle on Saturday.
Chasing the leader for much of the four-year-old mares maiden, she was asked to challenge at the second last and led after the final furlong. Keeping on well on the run-in, she scored by a length under Barry O’Neill, as long-time leader Tintern Abbey (Mahler) took second ahead of Sleek ‘N’ Chic (Mahler) in third.
Colin Bowe later indicated that the winner is a smart mare who will come on plenty for the experience. From the first Irish crop of Soldier Of Fortune, she was bred by David Lawlor out of a half-sister to dual Listed winner Kells Belle.
