Son Of Getaway Effortlessly Extends Unbeaten Record
Sporting John (4g Getaway - Wild Spell, by Oscar) extended his unbeaten record when running out an eight length winner of Friday’s Novice Hurdle at Exeter.
Bought for £160,000 after winning his sole start between the flags for Matthew O’Connor, he went on to win his first start over hurdles for Philip Hobbs and JP McManus last month. Back over the same course and distance, but carrying a penalty, he was sent off favourite under Barry Geraghty.
He tracked the leaders for much of the way, producing a challenged three from home and led before the next flight. Drawing clear approaching the last, he won with ease, despite losing a hind shoe.
Bred by Stephanie Hanly of Grange Hill Stud, Sporting John is one of three winners out of the mare Wild Spell (Oscar) and comes from the family of Oscar Whisky (Oscar).
