Son Of Getaway Looks A Smart Prospect Over Fences

The Kim Bailey-trained Newtide (6g Getaway- C’Est Fantastique, by Hernando) made a winning start to his chase career when justifying favoritism at Ffos Las on Sunday.

A dual winner over hurdles, he was reunited with regular rider David Bass on his seasonal return and led for much of the three mile Novices’ Chase. Shaken up at the third last, he won by two and a half lengths from Secret Reprieve (Flemensfirth), the pair finishing well clear of the third.

Newtide first showed his liking for jumping and staying in a four-year-old maiden at Oldcastle, in which he finished second on his sole start for Colin Bowe. He was bought by Highflyer Bloodstock for €100,000 after that effort and now runs in the colours of Lady Dulverton. The son of Getaway was bred by Allan and Mrs Chambers out of C’Est Fantastique, a dual winner over hurdles.

The previous day at Lisronagh, Getaway sired the winner of the strongly run Four-Year-Old Mares Maiden at Lisronagh. Newcomer Garter Lane (4m Getaway - Tariana, by Revoque) headed the favourite Overnight Success at the second last and ran on to win by four lengths under Eoin O’Brien.

Trained by Philip Fenton for the Steeplechasers Club, Garter Lane was bred by MF Finneran out of a full-sister to black-type hurdler Time On Your Side.
