Assemble (Getaway) After Winning The Kerry National at Listowel

Son Of Getaway Produces Dream Result In Kerry National

Assemble (7g Getaway- Annaghbrack, by Rudimentary) enjoyed a deserved big race success when landing the valuable Guinness Kerry National at the Listowel Festival on Wednesday.

Shane Fitzgerald rode Joseph O’Brien’s charge to chase the leaders, producing a strong challenge at the penultimate fence and led approaching the last. Racing clear on the run-in, he won by two and three quarter lengths on the line.

Speaking after the race, an elated Fitzgerald said, “It’s some thrill, and just to be on a horse of that calibre is just unreal. When I turned for home and gave him a squeeze and he picked up, I knew I was full of horse going to the second-last. I knew if something came to me, he was going to battle hard if need be.”

Grade 1 placed over fences and Grade 3 placed over hurdles, Assemble was last seen running with credit in the Galway plate and previously claimed fifth at the Cheltenham Festival. The son of Getaway was bred by Richard and Caroline Mathias, and since being purchased as a three-year-old for €100,000, runs in the colours of Gigginstown House Stud.
